set in a torn up future.

crying over the grave of her best friend.

Time travel 2 years in the past.
..the tram is traveling upside down o_o
i guess that's the future for you.

the friend that was dead in the future, Hibiki.
so she dies within the next two years?
now i really want to see how the writers build it up to the point where she does die..

Zwei Wing, the idols hosting the concert that Hibiki is attending.

awesome stadium is awesome.

Why so surprised, Idol producer boss man?

ash fills the air.

and "The Noise" mentioned in the synopsis also appear.

apparently they kill people by touching them and turning them into ash..

stage dive with no audience?

Kanade's transformation into her 'Symphogear' suit was awesome.
a new take on the idea of 'transformation sequence'.

and she sings while slicing the Noise.
awesome.

now there's an audience.

love the way they did the battle moves.
naming their moves makes it that much cooler.

Tsubasa gets in on the action..

..but Kanade still has the moves.

wait who's that? oh yeah, the heroine.
almost forgot because of Kanade and Tsubasa's combined awesomeness.

Kanade warning Hibiki (our heroine if your forgot ;D)

Kanade takes on a bunch of the Noise at once..

..because she's the best.

was not expecting this.
debris from Kanade killing the Noise hits Hibiki.
is this when she dies?
so is the story really about the grieving friend in the beginning?..

oh snap.

how is she alive?
it must have been awesome Kanade's words.

still awesome stadium is still awesome.

she's just so cool.

she sings her most powerful song.

it probably kills her.
why else would Tsubasa be saying this?
but i wonder what if the most powerful song had just randomly gotten stuck in her head one day..?

noooo Kanade... ToT

Hibiki loses consciousness while Tsubasa embraces Kanade's lifeless body.

Hibiki awakens in the ER.

back to 'present day'.
though it's before Hibiki dies.

she actually said that. the subs aren't wrong...

Hibiki and the friend from the beginning, Miku, now attend the same school as Tsubasa.

scar left from Hibiki's injury when Kanade saved her life.
Love how they made it "forte."

she's unsure of whether it was all real.
makes sense, because she was like stabbed in the chest.

Meanwhile...

so apparently in the past two years since Kanade's death,
Tsubasa has become ten times more awesome.

and now she gets the moves.

she doesn't even remember who Hibiki is.
I guess it's because all she remembers about that day was Kanade sacrificing herself
to destroy that Noise mob.

while out to buy Tsubasa's new CD...

Hibiki helps a girl also running from the Noise

a flashback motivates Hibiki to keep running.

She could try to run.
she could distract the Noise while the little girl runs.
she could do something more useful..
and yet she just quotes Kanade.

and sings..

and somehow it works.
i'll remember to do this next time i'm in a life threatening situation.

... that doesn't help.

but apparently it's important.

it's refreshing to see a main character actually painfully struggle to transform.

transformed Hibiki looks awesome.
was reminded of the Black Rock Shooter series PV here.

Another great first episode of a series this season.

Loved the way they did the whole transformation and the battle against the Noise with Kanade and Tsubasa.

Soundtrack was pretty awesome too. Already have Nana Mizuki's Synchrogazer on my iPod.

The episode ended with some suspense as to how Hibiki transformed too, so i'm looking forward to the next one.

Also looking forward to how they're going to set up Hibiki's death, since it's already been revealed in this first episode that she dies.
